The aim of this project is for us to research three gaming genres and to present a game idea. While this itself is not such a hard task, coming up with a game concept that's decent is going to be the harder bit.

Horror

Personal favourite. Blinking lights, dark atmosphere, immersive ambience - you name it! While this genre has been relatively dead for a long period of time, horror games have been receiving a enormous boost to their popularity for the last 3-4 years. That is due the amount of Youtubers playing lots of games from this genre. The number one youtuber in term of subscribers (Pewdiepie) made the genre very popular. A lot of indie games have been coming out, and I have to say some of them are looking beyond amazing! Realistic graphics, like those in Layers of Fear (on the right) are not that uncommon. Even better - something like Allison Road (below) has graphics, that put AAA games in it's pocket!
The important factors for a good horror game include good graphics, chilling and bassy ambience, long build-up-to-the-climax scenes, and most importantly - perfect lighting.

I'm putting this genre specifically for one game - Super Meat Boy. This is, hands down, one of my all time favourites. The game has amazing mechanics, insane difficulty and great soundtracks. It's worth mentioning games like Super Mario, since that's one of the first games of this genre. The idea of this genre, is the following :
You have to get from point A to point B without dying. The level is always possible, and whenever you die - it's your fault and noone elses. Depending on the game, the difficulty is always different. Super Mario is child's play, compared to I Wanna Be The Guy. The genre hasn't evolved a whole lot, but some games are still memorable.
moba's
The genre I grew up with. It's a type of strategy game, where you play in teams of five. Everyone is playing in real time, and both teams start under the exact same conditions, which makes the game fair. The objective is usually to destroy the enemy's base before they destroy yours. This genre is very complex, and requires very good muscle memory, on-the-spot decision making and predictions. I love this type of games, since it requires a lot of skills to win. These games typically have over 50 characters to choose from, so each game feels unique and fun. Big titles - Defence of the Ancients (DotA), League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth. Generally a great genre if you've got a ton of free time, since it's difficult to get into it.

Story
You play as thirty-eight years old Alex - a wealthy man, who owns a big company - 'Alice Co.' The phone rings and wakes you up late at night - must have fallen asleep in your office. Your wife, Elizabeth, is wondering whether you're coming back any time soon. You get ready and you're good to go... or are you? Strange sounds can be heard from the complex, and even though your workers are all gone, you're not entirely alone.
Top Level Atmosphere
When was the last time you played a game, that relied on it's atmosphere rather than cheap jump scares? My mission is to keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the game, so you can experience the old-school horror once again. No cheap scares, it's a promise!
Detailed storyline
The one thing that certainly lacks in numerous horror games nowadays is the story - that's why I'm bringing a very detailed one to the table. If I make you think about the story after you're done with the game, then I've accomplished my mission. That's the level I'm aiming at.
a choice to make
Another thing that most horror games lack - the freedom of choice. You'll be given two options at the beginning of the game - that will change how it plays out. One of them will make the game less scary, but will unveil more of the story and why exactly are you there. The other one will make the game scarier, but won't focus on the story all that much. To get the most out of the game, you'll have to play it twice!

presentation
I am overall extremely satisfied with how this project turned out. I'm planning on actually finishing and releasing this game, since I loved the idea that much. One thing I'd improve on, is the graphics part - the offices look kind of dull at the moment. A lot of the content is not revealed yet, so I can't really discuss that, since I don't want to spoil the actual game once it's out. The lighting needs some work, the monster could use a bit of fixing, but aside of that, I really enjoyed this project and am proud with how I managed to do it.
